Aylmer Bathroom Renovation
Kitchen + dining wall
Back to Portfolio

The Challenge
A narrow 1920s kitchen closed off from the dining room by a wall the owners assumed was decorative. It was load-bearing, and the family of four needed to keep cooking through the work.
Our Approach
We installed a steel beam with new bearing points down to the basement, then set up a temporary kitchen in the rear sunroom so the family kept a sink, fridge and induction plate for the whole build.
The Result
One open room with a nine-foot island, white oak cabinetry and honed marble. The beam is fully concealed in the ceiling plane.
